More than 4000 schools all over the world offer its (IB) Programmes®. Students working on these Programmes achieve a solid growth of academic, social and emotional skills which let them live, learn and work in a global world. Through these Programmes, students become independent and autonomous learners.
Programmes and International Examinations
At WS students live a continuous international experience from early childhood to pre-university stages through different programmes, designed by the IB (International Baccalaureate) and Cambridge University, both of which articulate and integrate to National ones. Universities and employers from all over the world value the high quality of these programmes.
Washington School has been also acknowledged as official venue for international exams.
IB PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME (PYP)
The PYP is a programme designed for three-to-twelve-year-old students.
It is a journey to discovery and learning where teachers and students explore different disciplines through six organizing themes being of global interest and surpassing the natural limits of the disciplines themselves. This programme gives a stimulating framework based on inquiry with students being active learners.
PYP prepares its students to become active, caring beings with an interest on learning during all their lifetime. It is based on the whole development of the child, the ability to investigate and discover within and outside the classroom.
It gives a curricular framework based on five essential elements (knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and action) needed to become successful people in their present and future life.
The philosophy of the Programme is based on the concept of learning as a permanent continuum. Six organizing themes give the framework for inquiry: Who we Are, Where we are in Time and Place, How we Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How we Organize Ourselves and Sharing the Planet. Local and global issues are included in this Programme.
